What LIVE means to us:

L – Lifestyle

I – Involvement

V – Voice

E – Enhancement

We are proud of the community we create and frequently take part in activities to demonstrate our values across the college group. Our student ambassadors proudly represent each campus when attending events such as the Student Voice Conference, where we discuss what it means to be an ambassador for the community.

LIVE Across The Group

We have an amazing team of Student Experience staff across all sites and they all run according to the needs of the students at the campus – alongside working together as a whole.

The LIVE programme is a central part of our college’s enrichment strategy, providing students with a wide range of engaging activities designed to enhance their college experience and personal development. Through the LIVE team, students have access to a variety of lunchtime clubs and sports sessions

  • including chess
  • board games
  • well-being clubs
  • Dungeons and Dragons

Alongside various physical activities, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy during their free time. This is tailored individually to each campus with room for flexibility and choices.

LIVE is also focused on amplifying student voices, fostering a sense of community, and encouraging active participation. This is achieved through initiatives such as:

  • Ambassador groups
  • Course representative meetings
  • Student voice conferences
  • The integration of the Equality & Diversity (E&D) and LIVE calendars.

We believe in the importance of listening to students and involving them in shaping their own experiences.

The programme collaborates with several external organisations to offer initiatives focused on well-being, mental health, and community involvement. These initiatives include events such as mental health and well-being days, along with projects where students work as a team, engage in discussions on important issues, and raise awareness of complex or sensitive topics. Student ambassadors will have the chance to experience democracy in action by participating in decision-making processes, sharing their opinions, and ensuring that their perspectives are heard and contribute to shaping the college community.

LIVE also promotes outdoor and creative activities through projects that span across all campuses. Students have the opportunity to engage in restorative tasks such as painting, planting, graffiti art, and environmental improvements. In addition to these ongoing projects, LIVE supports various awareness campaigns, including those focused on vaping, healthy living, and physical fitness through activities like calisthenics.

Looking ahead, LIVE continues to offer a diverse calendar of events, including a Mental Health Fair, Culture Day celebrations, Pride picnics, and a week focused on safety awareness, with initiatives such as a knife crime awareness fair. Additionally, we are committed to promoting disability awareness and providing support through events and resources that highlight the importance of inclusivity. These events aim to celebrate diversity, raise awareness, and offer students valuable opportunities to grow both personally and socially.

Role and Support

As the LIVE Coordinator, my focus has been on building strong, supportive relationships with both staff and students. I serve as a trusted point of contact for students who may need support in areas such as safeguarding, mental health, or general well-being, ensuring they feel heard and supported throughout their college journey. I regularly check in with students and connect them to the appropriate resources or departments when needed.

To ensure the student union remains student led, I gather anonymous feedback through surveys and QR codes, helping to ensure that students’ voices are genuinely represented. This feedback is crucial to our overall mission of equipping students with the skills, confidence, and self-awareness needed for life after college, whether they are moving on to higher education or entering the workforce.

To further support students, I am continuously enhancing my own practice through training in areas such as trauma-informed care, mental health first aid, and professional boundary management. These efforts help me provide the best possible support to students, both academically and emotionally. My role involves organising and liaising with external agencies to organise inclusive events that celebrate diversity, culture, and promote awareness around important topics such as disability, gender equality, mental health, and the environment. I actively support student ambassadors from the LGBTQIA+ community and various cultural and religious backgrounds to help break down stereotypes and foster a sense of belonging. Thus, allows opportunities for students to share their voices and experiences, I aim to build an inclusive college environment where everyone feels represented, valued, and empowered to learn and grow.

At LIVE, we’re committed to offering inclusive, enriching experiences across all our campuses. Through a unified approach, we ensure that students have access to opportunities that allow them to thrive, connect with their peers, and develop as individuals throughout their time at college.
